Your Amazon Journey
Â
How did you first get into Amazon FBA?
Before Amazon, IÂ explored many different ways to make money online - trying trading, affiliate marketing, and even cold calling. None of them gave me the scalability or freedom I was looking for. Then, in 2016, I discovered Amazon FBA. I realized its potential - leveraging Amazonâs logistics while selling products across different marketplaces was a game-changer. I started with online arbitrage, reinvesting profits, and scaling from there.
What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was figuring everything out without clear guidance. Back then, there werenât as many resources or communities as there are today, and I made a lot of mistakes. From bad product choices to dealing with IP complaints, I learned the hard way. I even lost over âŹ60,000 trusting another company to run our US Private label operations. The harshest lessons teach you the most. The turning point was getting serious about data - using tools like Keepa, learning from mistakes, and building solid processes to minimize risks and outsourcing all my processes by growing my team.
Whatâs one thing you wish you had known when you started selling on Amazon?
I wish I had known how important it is to track numbers properly from day one. Profit margins, VAT implications, and cash flow management are critical. In the early days, I focused too much on revenue, but real success comes from understanding profitability and making data-driven decisions.
Your Experience & Insights
What part of running an FBA business do you enjoy the most?
I love the challenge of sourcing profitable products and outmanoeuvring competition. The process of finding hidden gems, analysing data, and making smart buying decisions never gets old. Also, seeing the business grow and being able to become the owner and not the operator by expanding the team to systematize it so it runs more efficiently is extremely rewarding.
Whatâs been your biggest success or proudest moment as an Amazon seller?
Scaling to seven figures and building a business that doesnât require me to be tied to a single location has been a huge achievement. But beyond that, being able to help others by employing people in the Philippines and coaching newer sellers, sharing insights, and seeing them grow their businesses - has been just as or even more fulfilling.
If you could go back and do one thing differently in your FBA journey, what would it be?
I would have outsourced and built a team sooner. I held onto too many tasks for too long, thinking I needed to do everything myself. Once I started hiring VAs and putting proper systems in place, everything became more scalable and more fun.
Advice for Other Sellers
Whatâs one piece of advice youâd give to someone just getting started with Amazon FBA?
Focus on consistency over chasing quick wins. Thereâs a lot of hype about Amazon being easy money, but the sellers who make it long-term are the ones who treat it like a real business from day one - learning the numbers, improving sourcing skills, and adapting to changes.
Whatâs your top tip for someone looking to scale their business?
Donât just reinvest blindly - scale smartly. That means using tools to track profitability, avoiding cash flow traps, and leveraging automation where possible. Also, networking with other sellers and learning from those ahead of you can save you years of trial and error.
Whatâs the biggest mistake you see sellers make, and how can they avoid it?
A common mistake is thinking they can do it all themselves. I did it for years and I estimate it cost me at least 100k in profit by doing so. Also not Diversifying into different categories sooner. I was great at sourcing toys so I went all in on that but now we have many categories and over 1700 Active SKUs our month to moth sales are very stable.
Your Perspective on FBA Navigators
Why did you want to be part of FBA Navigators?
Because I know how valuable it is to have a strong community when youâre selling on Amazon. It can be a lonely business, I should know I kept to myself for 8 years, it's not really healthy and my knowledge has exploded 10 fold since I started talking to other sellers. Having a space where people share insights, wins, and lessons makes a massive difference.
What do you think makes FBA Navigators different from other Amazon communities?
The level of transparency and real-world experience. A lot of communities are filled with surface-level advice or people who havenât actually done what they teach. FBA Navigators is built around people actively selling, scaling, and adapting to Amazonâs ever-changing landscape. We have almost 2 decades of experience just between the founders.
What do you hope members will take away from being part of this community?
I hope they gain the confidence to make better business decisionsâwhether itâs sourcing, scaling, or handling challenges. I also want them to see that success isnât about finding some âsecret hackâ but about mastering the fundamentals and being consistent over time.
Fun Fact!
Whatâs something about you that people might not expect?
Most people donât know that I was a chef for 12 years and have a Bachelor of Science in Culinary arts. I competed in many competitions and won or come in the top 3 chefs in the UK back in the Early 2000's. I became a Michelin star Head chef at the age of 23 and kept the star for 4 years before getting into e-commerce. It taught me a lot about managing a team and putting in the hours, skills that transfer well to selling on Amazon! Plus I can still cook mean Sunday roast.
