Warren Henson - Amazon FBA Product Sourcer

My FBA Journey & Insights

After years in a high-pressure corporate job, I knew there had to be a better way. I had looked into Amazon FBA before but never took the leap - until one day, I made the decision to go all in. With a six-month deadline to prove it could work, I threw myself into building my business from the ground up.

Through strategic sourcing, data-driven decision-making, and networking with other sellers, I not only hit my goals but exceeded them. Now, as one of the FBA Navigators, my focus is on helping others navigate this journey - so they don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Your Amazon Journey

How did you first get into Amazon FBA?

After meeting Nicola at 47 and working a thankless job in a large franchise, I realised I couldn’t keep doing it. The toxic workplace, office politics, and ever-increasing workload, it felt like I was on a treadmill, getting nowhere. I had looked at many opportunities over the years, including Amazon FBA, but never actually started. Then came a turning point. I told Nicola, "I want to start an Amazon business," and she said, "You have six months to make it work, or back to work you go." That was all the motivation I needed. The rest is history.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting, and how did you overcome it?

Starting full-time with a small capital meant that I often found myself waiting for stock to arrive, for Amazon payouts, for things to move forward. Instead of wasting that time, I decided to dig deeper. I started challenging the conventional advice shared online about selling on Amazon. Through deep analysis of the data, I realised that things weren’t always as they seemed. That ‘spare time’ became an opportunity to develop sourcing methods that I still use today.

What’s one thing you wish you had known when you started selling on Amazon?

For at least 18 months, I was a lone wolf, thinking Amazon was a business where you had to keep things to yourself. It was a lonely journey. I wish I had realised much earlier how powerful networking and collaboration could be. Now, I have a large support network, and I regularly meet and speak with other sellers. That has made all the difference.

Your Experience & Insights

What part of running an FBA business do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy product sourcing the most, the thrill of the hunt. Data leaves crumbs that, when analysed properly, reveal opportunities others overlook. And of course, I love Amazon-themed events!

What’s been your biggest success or proudest moment as an Amazon seller?

I have two. The first was hitting the six-month mark and showing Nicola my Amazon results. Her words? "Don’t go back to your job. You need to do this." That was a defining moment for me. The second is mentoring over 100 people to source better, many of them had no choice

but to make this work. Nothing brings a lump to your throat more than a public testimonial from someone whose life has changed because of what you taught them.

If you could go back and do one thing differently in your FBA journey, what would it be?

I would have started much sooner. I wasted a lot of time looking, researching, and over-preparing when what I really needed to do was just start.

Advice for Other Sellers

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just getting started with Amazon FBA?

Start right. Follow the steps and don’t get too excited or overstretch yourself. Amazon is a marathon, not a sprint.

What’s your top tip for someone looking to scale their business?

Make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Don’t scale the problem, scale the solution. Whatever problem you have now will 5x when you scale. Can you handle that?

What’s the biggest mistake you see sellers make, and how can they avoid it?

Treating Amazon like a side hustle instead of a real business. The best way to avoid this? Create a business plan before you even start. Visualise your end goal and reverse engineer it. Now that’s a plan.

Your Perspective on FBA Navigators

Why did you want to be part of FBA Navigators?

Having mentored Amazon sellers since March 2024, I saw the massive positive impact it had. Students became friends. But the four-week mentorship always had an end date, and that was tough for both sides. Since last year, people have been asking, "What’s next?" The logical step was a community. I knew I couldn’t build it alone, but luckily, Jimmy, Ashley, and Russ had the same idea. Now, it’s not just about us, it’s about how many people we can bring on this journey together. Strength in numbers, collaboration, and shared success, that’s what I want to be part of.

What do you think makes FBA Navigators different from other Amazon communities?

Everyone selling on Amazon is on the same journey, just at different stages. We align with where they are now, offering the right support and resources to fill in past gaps and help them navigate the road ahead.

What do you hope members will take away from being part of this community?

Clarity. I want this community to give people clarity. Once you know where you are, it becomes easy to plan and execute the next move. I want to see people hit both their business and personal goals. It’s like watching someone open a present
priceless.

Fun Fact!

What’s something about you that people might not expect?

I’m a Level 2 England Basketball Coach. I spent six years volunteering as a coach for our local town basketball club, working with kids from nursery age up to under-16s. It was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
